Jerry has been involved in intellectual property law for almost 40 years, including broad industrial experience and a diverse background as both in-house and outside IP counsel. He sits on the University of Akron School of Law's Intellectual Property Law Advisory Council alongside 29 other distinguished IP professionals, including the Chief Judge for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, a former Commissioner of Patent and Trademarks, a former Register of Copyrights, a former long-time Congressman, two noted trademark authors, and a National Inventor's Hall of Fame inductee.
Jerry's technical expertise lies in the chemical and biochemical arts, and in chemical and mechanical engineering. Specific expertise includes organic, inorganic, and polymer chemistry; paper and wood chemistry; IC processing and materials; materials, structural composites and metallurgical sciences; biochemistry; and mechanical technologies.
His broad and deep understanding of IP law includes all phases of patent and trademark prosecution and client counseling, and a unique knowledge of technology transactional matters.
Prior to co-founding the firm more than 18 year ago, Jerry spent over 13 years as N.W. Regional Patent Counsel for Crown Zellerbach Corporation, five years in the Patent Law Department of the B.F. Goodrich Company, and several years in private IP law practice. He has also worked for Diamond Shamrock Corp., E.R. Squibb & Co., and Ronson Metals in various chemical and biochemical technologies.
Jerry continues to work with a wide variety of clients - from Providence Health Systems to Louisiana-Pacific, and from Xerox to the Willamette Valley Company.
Jerry enjoys his beach house at the Oregon coast, sports, theater and musical arts, traveling to the East Coast and beyond, and anything involving his grandchildren. He has also been a residential and commercial real estate developer for more than 25 years.
