Richard C. Sughrue Symposium on Intellectual Property Law and Policy

SYMPOSIUM OVERVIEW

The program will feature a review of recent developments in patent, trademark and copyright law by noted experts in the field. It will also include panel discussions on the issues of patentable subject matter, in particular on the case Bilski v, Kappos; on the subject of inequitable conduct and fraud in procuring patents and trademark registrations; and on the ethical and legal obligations involved with the outsourcing abroad of intellectual property work. The new Commissioner of Patents, Robert L. Stoll, is expected to be our luncheon speaker.

ABOUT THE CO-SPONSORS

The University of Akron School of Law houses The Center for Intellectual Property Law and Technology. Nationally respected, it is one of only a few IP centers in the United States. The Center exposes the community to critical thinking in the intellectual property field, invites distinguished speakers to campus, and annually hosts The Richard C. Sughrue Symposium on Intellectual Property Law and Policy. The Center’s curriculum was tied for fifth in the nation with respect to number of offerings (IDEA - The Intellectual Property Law Review, 2005). The Center also offers an LL.M. in Intellectual Property. Similar to the J.D. program, LL.M. students can attend full time or part time. LL.M. students bring a practical perspective to law school classes while learning cutting-edge material from our internationally known IP Center.

Richard C. Sughrue founded the intellectual property law firm of Sughrue Mion, PLLC in 1957 to provide high quality opinion work and client representation at the United States Patent and Trademark Office to domestic clients. The firm steadily grew under his influence to become the full-range, internationally recognized intellectual property law firm that it is today.
