As we enter the 21st century, intellectual property law is being stretched in formerly unimaginable ways in order to accommodate new technologies and the global economy. Whether the issue is patent protection for methods of doing business or for human gene-based inventions, the scope of the doctrine of equivalents, the application of the Copyright Act to digital technology, or the resolution of domain name disputes, new boundaries are being drawn by the courts and Congress. This symposium will explore these issues and others. Featured speakers include the Register of Copyrights, Marybeth Peters, and the Deputy Commissioner for Patent Examination Policy, Stephen G. Kunin. Experienced practitioners, including lead counsel for the prevailing party in the Festo case, and legal scholars will participate.

The Senior Vice President of Technology and Global Products Planning for The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., Joe M. Gingo, will be the featured luncheon speaker.
