This year's symposium will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Patent Act of 1952. The program will explore the interpretation of various provisions of the Act and its impact on the law and innovation. A distinguished panel of speakers also will explore future challenges to the patent system, with particular emphasis on the topics of patentable subject matter and development in the computer and biotechnology arts. The conference will also include a presentation by the general counsel of the U.S. Copyright Office and a discussion of international developments. The Honorable James E. Rogan, Under Secretary of Commerce for Intellectual Property and Director of the United States Patent and Trademark Office, is the invited luncheon speaker.
