Professor Willa E. Gibson teaches Antitrust Law, Corporations Law, Law and Economics, and Secured Transactions Law at The University of Akron School of Law. Professor Gibson received her B.A. in Economics from Tulane University-Newcomb College and her J.D from Drake University, where she awarded the title “Most Likely to Succeed” by the Drake University Faculty. She graduated from Drake University with honors and was member of the Drake Law Review. She has been admitted to the bar for the state of Iowa. Her professional memberships include American Bar Association, the Iowa State Bar Association, the National Right to Life Organization and the Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights. She has over 20 years of experience in the area of consumer and commercial transactions. Prior to joining the Akron Law faculty in 1995, Professor Gibson was senior counsel and finance attorney in the Enforcement Division of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission in Washington D.C. Prior to her employment at the SEC, she was a commercial and consumer lender, and a commercial loan analyst for a major banking and finance institution. She was recently a member of the Advisory Board for the 3rd edition of the Redbook. Her research focuses on issues of economic efficiency of investment securities’ priority rules in Article 8 and 9 of Uniform Commercial Code; securities regulation; over-the-counter derivatives transactions; and hedge fund investments. Her recent articles include “Deposit Accounting Financing under Revised Article 9” (UCC Bulletin, Thomson West, January 2007) and Banks Reign Supreme under Revised Article Nine Deposit Account Rules, 30 Del. J. Corp. L. 819 (2005). Her recent book publication is entitled A COMPREHENSIVE REVIEW OF REVISED 9 (Carolina Academic Press 2006); and she is currently writing a treatise on Revised Article 9 to be published by Vanderplas Publishing in 2009.
