She received her B.A., with high honors at the University of Oklahoma, her J.D. from Harvard Law School, where she was a member of the International Law Journal and president of the Native American Law Students Association, and her Arabic Language Certification from The American University in Cairo. Professor Newton Lyons currently teaches Contracts and a seminar in national security law. She is an enrolled member of the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma and is admitted to the Virginia State Bar. Additionally, Professor Newton Lyons has been reappointed by the ABA President to the ABA Standing Committee on Law and National Security Advisory Committee. Prior to joining the Akron Law faculty, Professor Newton Lyons was an attorney for the National Indian Gaming Commission and served as a covert operations officer in the Central Intelligence Agency. Professor Newton Lyons is the author of many publications, and her research focuses on national security law and federal Indian law. Her most recent publication is The State Secrets Privilege: Expanding Its Scope through Government Misuse, 11 Lewis & Clark L. Rev. 99 (2007). |
