C. Alan Newman is professor of law at The University of Akron School of Law. He has taught courses in wills, trusts and estates, estate planning, and accounting and finance from a lawyer’s perspective. Professor Newman received his bachelor of accounting, as well as his J.D. degree, from the University of Oklahoma, where he was class valedictorian, member of the Order of the Coif and articles editor of the Oklahoma Law Review. He is a member of several professional societies including the Oklahoma Bar Association, the Ohio State Bar Association and the American Bar Association. He also is an academic fellow of American College of Trust and Estate Counsel and a certified public accountant. Professor Newman recently served as reporter for the Joint Committee on the Ohio Uniform Trust Code of the Ohio Bankers League and the Estate Planning, Trust, and Probate Law Section of the Ohio State Bar Association, and is a member of the Editorial Advisory Board of the Probate Law Journal of Ohio. His recent publications include Revocable Trusts and the Law of Wills: An Imperfect Fit, 43 Real Property, Trust and Estate Law Journal ___ (forthcoming 2008); Shoemaker v. Gindlesberger: The Lack of Privity Defense Survives, but Just Barely, 18 Probate Law Journal of Ohio __ (forthcoming July/August 2008); and The Uniform Trust Code: An Analysis of Ohio’s Version, 34 Ohio Northern University Law Review 135 (2008). He is currently working on the third edition of the volume of the Bogert, Trusts and Trustees treatise on the information and accounting duties of trustees. Professor Newman joined the Akron Law faculty in 1996 and has been named Outstanding Professor of the Year in 2007, 2001, 2000 and 1998.
