| In 2005, The University of Akron School of Law had one of its programs break into the specialty feature of the U.S. News and World Report ("USNWR"). Our Trial Advocacy program tied for 7th place in the nation with Georgetown, Northwestern, and Washington University in St.Louis. It is a great pleasure to see this additional accolade included among the many accomplishments of our student trial teams. We have been in the National Institute for Trial Advocacy's (NITA) top 16 more times than any other law school. We think the NITA rankings are the most reliable ranking. Still, we are happy to see the recognition in the USNWR which has a greater market share. There are many who have contributed to these successes: the student participants, the many alumni coaches, and the three individuals who deserve special commendation for the outstanding performance of this program - Professor Emeritus Charles Kirkwood who founded the program and coached the team to so many successes; Paul Perantinides('69)who, at an early point, stepped forward with a significant donation to help support these teams; and Larry Sutter('89)who has been a key coach and leader for our teams since Professor Kirkwood's retirement. |
