The Student Bar Association (SBA) is a professional organization for all law students. It represents the diverse mix of students at The University. The SBA is the student governmental body and an umbrella organization for the other student organizations of the School of Law. SBA acts as a liaison for the School, the community, and the students. Active participation allows for interaction with other students, faculty and staff, as well as other professional organizations such as the American, Ohio and Akron Bar Associations.
We have many exciting programs and events planned for the school year. Our mentor program pairs up incoming students with upper class students to help the new students learn the ropes and to answer any questions they may have. In the early Fall we hold a picnic which is good opportunity to meet other students, faculty and staff. A popular and fun event is the Auction in March which is coordinated with the Alumni Association. Also in the Spring is our Barrister's Ball with great food and dancing to celebrate the end of the year. Our Speakers Committee brings in many interesting people from various areas of law, including judges, public officials, newly-minted attorneys fresh out of school and many more. We coordinate community activities like Habitat for Humanity, community cleanups, food drives for hunger shelters and other beneficial public interest activities. Of course, we're always looking for new ideas. We also coordinate with the local Akron Bar Association for some good networking experience and joint activities.
You are invited to join in our adventures while you are in law school. The SBA is a great organization for meeting your fellow students, faculty and alumni and really getting the most out of your law school experience.
We look forward to seeing you at The University of Akron School of Law.
