B-26 Marauder Archives, Charles H. Drake Papers

Range: 1943 - 1949 Size: 0.25 cubic feet Record Group: 100/2

Charles H. Drake served in the Headquarters Squadron of the 391st Bomb Group. His papers include orders he received throughout his military service and many photographs taken during World War II.

B-26 Marauder Archives, Charles R. Meyers Jr. Collection

Range: 1943 - 1945 Size: 1 cubic foot Record Group: 100/7

Charles R. Meyers Jr. served in the 319th Bombardment Group, 438th Bombardment Squadron from 1942-1945 as a Marauder pilot. His papers include strike photographs of various bombing missions from June 5, 1943 to December 3, 1944 and photo negatives from July 11, 1943 to August 10, 1945. The photographic negatives include combat crews, United Service Organizations (USO) shows, visitations, and other events associated with camp life.

The Donald McDonald Collection consists of a photograph of the 575th ground crew and newspapers written, printed and distributed to the 391st Bomb Group while at their various stations during World War II.

B-26 Marauder Archives, Marvin C. Colton Papers

Range: 1942 - 1995 Size: 0.5 cubic feet Record Group: 100/5

Marvin C. Colton served in the 555th Bomb Squadron, 386th Bomb Group (M) as a bombardier during World War II. This collection consists of photographs from the World War II era and the 1980's and 1990's "Return of the Crusader" reunions. It also includes a brief history of the 555th Bomb Squadron and rosters for the 386th Bomb Group (M) Association.

Range: 1942 - 2001 Size: 3 cubic feet Record Group: 100/1

Robert L. "Hap" Holliday served in the 391st Bombardment Group during World War II as a B-26 Marauder pilot. The papers include his military service records and correspondence, material form the 391st Bomb Group Association, the B-26 Marauder Historical Society and the B-26 Archives Advisory Council.

Bailey, Rae

Materials relating the author's interest in the history of Savannah and Clear Creek Township, Ashland County, Ohio. Also included are genealogical papers spanning the author's ancestors (John R. Bailey Family), and the historical pageant, various poems, and short stories written by Bailey.

Baldwin, Frank B. Papers

Range: 1919 - 1972 Size: 6.2 cubic feet Record Group: 99/134

Frank B. Baldwin was an employee of the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company under their flight operations department and later their astronautics and undersea warfare sales department. He also served as a pilot and personal aide to Paul W. Litchfield, president and later CEO and Chairman of Board of Goodyear. Included in the papers are photograph albums, logs, and subject files from his 34 years at Goodyear in addition to numerous Goodyear related film strips, slides, published materials, and artifacts.

Baus, Louis Canal Photograph Collection

Range: 1896 - 1933 Size: 0.5 cubic feet Record Group:

Louis Baus, photographer, shot numerous scenes along the Ohio & Erie, Miami & Erie, and the connecting feeder canals. This collection of over 400 photo negatives portrays a sense of canal life during the late 1800s to early 1900s. Found in this collection are images of canal boats, crew and passengers, as well as various locks, businesses and homes along the canal ways.

Blair, Charles V.

Range: 1964 - 1973 Size: 3 cubic feet Record Group:

Blair served as Director of the University News Bureau, Director of the Institute for Civic Education and Dean of the Evening College. Correspondence, minutes, financial statements, project proposals, progress reports, and clippings of the Summit County Greater Akron Community Action Council, the Akron-Summit Tutorial Program, and Upward Bound.


Bock, Fred C.

Range: 1928 - 1996 Size: 10 cubic feet Record Group:

Papers contain materials belonging to and created by Fred C. Bock, an Akron radio broadcaster, personality, and advertising agent. Included are material from his radio career at WADC and his work as an advertising executive. Also included are papers from the Broadcasters Hall of Fame, of which Bock was a founding member, as well as papers from his career as a student at the University of Akron. Typescripts of Bock's radio programs House of the Lord and As They Like It are also present. The collection contains mostly printed material, but also includes photographs and phonodisc sound recordings

Bosworth, Glenn "Speed"

The collection includes: correspondence, military papers, church programs, autograph sheets, personal awards, newspaper clippings, team statistics and scorecards (from coaching career), materials relating to leagues in which Bosworth coached, and materials relating to scouting for the Cleveland Indians (Cleveland Indians season passes, minor league rosters, player evaluation reports, and schedules. Scrapbooks and photographs of Bosworth's activities as a player and coach of baseball and basketball.


Boy Scouts of America — Akron Area Council

Business papers, including: annual meeting materials, budget requests, receipts, finances, committee meeting minutes, licenses and royalties, operations, organizational procedures and practices, and personnel files comprise the bulk of the records. Also included are: files on the significant sponsoring institutions, materials on Camp Manatoc (Peninsula), and programs such as scout advancement, aviation and scouting, badges and awards, cubbing, health and safety, juvenile delinquency, Air Scouts, Black Scouting, Catholic Scouting, Jamborees, the Area Planning Assembly, Region Four, the Scout-O-Rama, Mother's Club, and the Wood Badge Course.

Materials dealing with the Buckeye Council, including: correspondence, minutes, merger materials (Buckeye/Massillon and McKinley/Canton Councils), financial analyses, the Colorado Springs Jamboree (1960), annual programs, field director staff meeting minutes, the merger agreement, and the organization of the new council.

Buchtelite

Range: 1889 - Present Size: Record Group: 41/2

The Buchtelite is the student newspaper of The University of Akron.  The newspaper has gone through various title changes including The Buchtelite, Akron Buchtelite, and Buchtelite.


Collections in Archival Services are classified by the following ways:

  • University Archives contain historical resources that document the history and development of The University of Akron and its predecessor institutions.
  • Special Collections contains personal papers of local families/individuals and organizational records of local organizations/businesses.  Strengths of the collection are primary and secondary sources documenting the history of the rubber industry, lighter-than-air flight, and Ohio canals. Special collections also include local government records for a nine county region.
  • Book collections include rare books and books documenting the history of the university, the region, and special topics.  All cataloged books are included in the UA Libraries Catalog.
