Welton, Allen, Collection; Oak Hill Cheese Factory

The Welton Collection pertains to the Oak Hill Cheese Factory and contains correspondence, postcards, circulars, receipts, and market reports. The earlier correspondence relates to the Civil War and period immediately following.

Weathervane Community Playhouse

Papers documenting the growth of community theater in Akron, including: historical materials, membership lists, governance papers, newsletters, minutes, scripts, publications, financial statements, check registers, paid bills, expense records, play programs, youth theater scripts, youth theater financial records and miscellaneous materials, photographs, individual folders arranged by play (39 titles), scrapbooks, slides, phonotapes, and clippings.


Waterhouse, Helen

Ms. Waterhouse's papers contain materials relating to the newspaper woman's career, including a selection of her published articles in newspapers and journals. The collection consists of correspondence, reports from the Ohio Newspaper Woman's Association and National Federation of Press Women, and Waterhouse's "Big Story," the Russian Series.

Collections in Archival Services are classified by the following ways:

  • University Archives contain historical resources that document the history and development of The University of Akron and its predecessor institutions.
  • Special Collections contains personal papers of local families/individuals and organizational records of local organizations/businesses.  Strengths of the collection are primary and secondary sources documenting the history of the rubber industry, lighter-than-air flight, and Ohio canals. Special collections also include local government records for a nine county region.
  • Book collections include rare books and books documenting the history of the university, the region, and special topics.  All cataloged books are included in the UA Libraries Catalog.
