McIntosh, W. B.

The collection contains material relating to McIntosh's relationships with: Akron Community Trust, Litchfield Rehabilitation Center, Seiberling Foundation, First Congregational Church, Canal Street Property, Children's Hospital, and Pyramid Rubber Company. Materials include correspondence, reports, appraisals, lists of grants, financial reports, minutes, publications, governance papers, building plans, yearbooks, notes, donations records, and agreements.

McGovern, Frances

The Frances McGovern Collection consists primarily of material relating to her activities with the Akron Area Chamber of Commerce Committee on Urban Services, the Little Hoover Commission, and the Summit County Charter Commission. Materials include reports, correspondence, notes, and information on the Summit County Charter commission. Also included are books and pamphlets.

McDonald, Peter Papers

Peter McDonald (1930-2013) was a tire designer/engineer with The Firestone Tire & Rubber Company and a tire forensics expert who served as a consultant and expert witness on numerous murder trials throughout the United States and Canada.  His papers include correspondence, drawings, patents, news releases, publications, newspaper clippings, photographs, slides, audio/video, and training materials that document his life and work and the trials that he worked on.

Manufacturers' Mutual Fire Insurance Company

Range: 1900 - 1940 Size: 4 cubic feet Record Group:

Insurance plan drawings for industrial sites in the Northeast, Midwest, and South, most located in Pennsylvania, New York and Ohio. Plans give isometric and flat plan views of plant sites and include detailed information on construction and layout. Scale: 1"=50'.

Manifold, Cortland B.

Range: 1921 - 1952 Size: 1.0 Record Group: 99/243

Courtland B. Manifold (1894-1973) was a soil specialist who worked for the United States government as well as Goodyear and Firestone. He investigated land in South America, West Africa, and the Far East for planting of rubber during the first half of the twentieth century. His papers contain his diaries and photographs that document his work and his travels.

Collections in Archival Services are classified by the following ways:

  • University Archives contain historical resources that document the history and development of The University of Akron and its predecessor institutions.
  • Special Collections contains personal papers of local families/individuals and organizational records of local organizations/businesses.  Strengths of the collection are primary and secondary sources documenting the history of the rubber industry, lighter-than-air flight, and Ohio canals. Special collections also include local government records for a nine county region.
  • Book collections include rare books and books documenting the history of the university, the region, and special topics.  All cataloged books are included in the UA Libraries Catalog.
