Community Patron Borrowing Privileges

Members of the community and UA Alumni seeking borrowing privileges are granted immediate access to University Libraries resources, OhioLINK resources, and the World Wide Web free of charge. Community borrowing privileges are granted for a period of one year from the date of registration and may be renewed annually.

Requirements for Registration

To be eligible for community borrowing privileges at The University of Akron Libraries, you must provide the following:

  • Valid Driver’s License, State ID, or Military ID
  • Proof that you are at least 18 years of age
  • Documentation verifying your current address
  • Documentation verifying your social security number
  • You must apply in person at either the Bierce Library or Science & Technology Library Circulation Desk

Borrowing Privileges

Community borrowers may check out up to 15 items at any given time, which may include up to 5 OhioLINK items. In addition, community borrowers also have access to the World Wide Web, licensed databases, government publications, AV materials, and other UA libraries materials. Community borrowers must come to the library to use online and computer resources. Community borrowers may not check out laptop computers.

Accessing the World Wide Web

Log-in access to the World Wide Web (the gateway to the UA Libraries Catalog, OhioLINK Central Catalog, research databases, etc.) is available from UA Libraries public computer work stations only. Public work stations are located at the Bierce, S & T, and Law libraries. Log-in instructions are posted at each work station and will be explained upon registration.

Your Library PIN

Upon registration, you will be asked to designate PIN to access the World Wide Web, view your library record online, and place local hold requests. Click here for more information about your library PIN.
