Interlibrary Loan
What can be borrowed?
Through ILL you can borrow circulating books, microforms and some dissertations from most research libraries in the United States. You can obtain photocopies of articles from most periodicals, including a large number of foreign publications.
Ordinarily, we cannot borrow bound volumes of periodicals, rare books, genealogical materials, newly-published titles, audio-visual materials, computer software, or materials already owned by the Library.
Who can use Interlibrary Loan?
If you are a student currently enrolled at the University of Akron, or a member of the University faculty or staff, you are entitled to interlibrary loan privileges.
How long does it take?
Sometimes materials borrowed though ILL will arrive within a week, but the typical request requires about two weeks. It is best to place your request as early as possible, allowing time for potential delays.
How much does it cost?
The Library absorbs the costs of Interlibrary Loan services. There is no charge to you, unless you have an urgent request that must be faxed. There is a $3.00 charge for this service.
How may an Interlibrary Loan request be placed?
Interlibrary Loan requests must be placed through the ILLIAD system. Their system is available from the Libraries' web page under Submit a Request, select Interlibrary Loan requests via ILLIAD; or connect directly at https://uakron.illiad.oclc.org/illiad/logon.html (Main Campus only).
Fill in the registration information if you are a first-time user, then fill in the electronic request form as completely as possible, using full titles rather than abbreviations. Please furnish a source of reference for your citation. The more information you can provide, the sooner your request can be processed and your material obtained.
Where can my request be picked up?
Materials for students are held at the Circulation Desk at Bierce Library. Science students may pick up their materials at the Science & Technology Library.
Faculty and Staff have the option of requesting that Interlibrary Loan materials be delivered to their campus offices.
