Collection Management


Bibliographers either assigned to or having duties related to the Collection Management department are responsible for the following:

  • Establishing liaisons with academic departments for the sciences and engineering and the humanities and social sciences and academic programs and fostering a climate of support through a cluster of subject-services


  • Developing suitable library collections as support to the curriculum of the university


  • Developing appropriate pathfinders and other access tools to guide student and faculty researchers in use of the collections available


  • Exhibiting wise stewardship over university funds allocated for library materials


  • Seeking out, establishing, and maintaining special collections


  • Maintaining usable collections through discard, transfer, and conversion of materials


  • Participating in and helping to develop the library's information literacy program


  • Providing specialized research assistance in appropriate subject areas through chat and email reference


  • Participating regularly in exhibits and displays focusing on library resources



Administrative support for the department helps bibliographers with all the above as well as coordinates scheduling of library classrooms and other meeting facilities for library and other faculty.
