The Department of Teaching and Training coordinates the hiring, training, and scheduling of student workers who staff the Reference Desk; manages the training and orientation of new library faculty and staff; creates instructional and training materials for both library workers and all users of library services; facilitates the training of faculty, staff, and students (both inside and outside of the library) in the use of new and potential research databases; administers information literacy-related programs and services offered by University Libraries; coordinates the teaching of the library’s 1-credit Information Tools course (about 10 sections per year); develops online tutorials and lesson plans to be used to promote the inclusion of information literacy skills into course curricula; tests and implements new electronic resource products and processes; maintains and monitors the Database Previews page; analyzes and evaluates electronic records in the University Libraries Catalog and Article Indexes and Databases list, including running reports, creating lists for analysis, and updating resources by adding new and suppressing expired records and links; coordinates the scheduling of Library Brown Bag information sessions; provides direct assistance to library users at the reference service desk.
