Galvanic corrosion occurs when two different metals or alloys come in close proximity – for example, a wire harness connecting aluminum and copper wires, or a stainless steel bolt attached to a sheet of aluminum. The metal or alloy that is more 'noble’ serves as a cathode; the other metal or alloy, the anode, corrodes in the presence of an electrolyte.

The goal of this project is to formulate, analyze and solve mathematical models for galvanic corrosion damage evolution in a variety of geometries, including the wire harness configuration, internal pipe corrosion, external pipe corrosion, and fasteners.
