Business professionals today are often challenged with creating and/or managing their own visual communications. While it is always best practice to work with branding and graphic design professionals, budgets and timelines do not always allow for it. This programs focus is on providing small business owners, office administrators, sales teams, marketing associates, and manufacturing professionals a foundation of basic skills to plan, create, produce or manage a variety of visual communication projects that may include business cards, brochures, flyers, sales presentations, email newsletters, web graphics and print advertisements. The first eight-week course in this program looks into branding do’s-and-don’ts, creating and interpreting creative briefs, and idea development. The second eight-week course in this program addresses graphic design basics. Students will be introduced to color usage, basic typography and page layout using Adobe Creative Suite software applications. The final eight-week course rounds out the program with emphasis on print production, PDF generation, preparing files for web usage, and general digital studio file management.
Upon successful completion of all three courses of this program (24 weeks), students will have increased understanding of branding, the visual design process, basic graphic design software knowledge and production fundamentals. At the end of the program each student will receive an acknowledgment of completion certificate from The University of Akron.
