Stephen Dubner Is Knight Lecturer on April 4

Akron, Ohio, March 19, 2007 - Author and award-winning journalist Stephen Dubner will deliver the 2007 John S. Knight Lecture at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 4 at The University of Akron's E.J. Thomas Performing Arts Hall. Tickets for “An Evening With Stephen Dubner" are free, but must be picked up in person at the Thomas Hall Ticket Office.

Sponsored by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, Dubner is visiting Akron as part of the university's 2006-07 Forum Speaker Series. Co-author of the international bestseller "Freakonomics: A Rogue Economist Explores the Hidden Side of Everything," he presents a wry and unconventional insight on real-life economics.

More than 1.5 million copies have been sold in the United States alone since "Freakonomics" was published in April 2005. The book has received several awards including the inaugural Quill Award for best business book, a Visionary Award from the National Council on Economic Education, BookSense Book of the Year, and it was named a Notable Book of 2005 by the New York Times.

The John S. Knight Lectureship was established in 1990 through a gift from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation in honor of John S. Knight (1894-1981), a newspaperman and publishing genius of the 20th century. The lectureship brings to campus distinguished writers, politicians and other figures of national or international importance.
