Dr. Bill Hauser and Graduate Jill Gorian Receive SMEI Awards

Akron, Ohio, Feb. 21, 2008 ― Dr. Bill Hauser, assistant professor of marketing in the University of Akron's College of Business Administration, and sales management graduate Jill Gorian were honored at the 36th annual awards banquet of the Akron affiliate of Sales & Marketing Executives International on Tuesday.

Hauser, who is also associate director of the college's Taylor Institute for Direct Marketing, received a Distinguished Sales and Marketing Award for his service to the university and its students, for two decades as manager of research and business development for Rubbermaid and Little Tikes, and his tenure as senior vice president and director of market research and planning at KeyCorp in Cleveland.

Gorian, who graduated from UA in December 2007 with a degree in sales management, received the Exceptional Sales and Marketing Collegiate Award. She was chosen for her project involvement with Pi Sigma Epsilon, where she was vice president of administration.

The focus of Gorian's SMEI award essay was her internship at Step2, the Streetsboro manufacturer and marketer of products for children and for the home and garden.

SMEI annually recognizes outstanding accomplishments of sales and marketing professionals.

Alan Bleyer, president of Akron General Medical Center and president and CEO of Akron General Health System, received the Executive of The Year award. Thirteen others received Distinguished Sales and Marketing Awards (DSMAs). Only one student award was given.

Other faculty in UA's College of Business Administration who have received DSMAs are Mike D'Amico, Jon Hawes, Dale Lewison and George Prough.
