UA Counseling Clinic Presents GLBT Lecture April 18
Akron, Ohio, March 12, 2008 — Sexual orientation therapy expert Shannon Dermer will present "Understanding and Strengthening Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender (GLBT) Couples' Relationships: What are the Struggles and What Can Help?" at The University of Akron on Friday, April 18 from 2 to 5 p.m. in Student Union Room 312. Dermer will address common struggles that all couples face; special challenges GLBT couples face, methods GLBT couples can use to strengthen their relationships; and local and national GLBT support sources. A licensed marriage and family therapist, Dermer is the interim division chair of psychology and counseling at Governors State University in Illinois. She has worked with couples for 12 years, and has trained master's and doctoral degree-level students to become couples counselors for nine years. She has published and presented research on counseling and sexual orientation therapy issues. Free and open to the public, this event is presented by The University of Akron Clinic for Individual and Family Counseling in collaboration with the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Union. It is made possible by a grant from the Gay Community Endowment Fund of the Akron Community Foundation.
