Counseling Facility Named For Chima Family
Akron, Ohio, March 26, 2008 — A University of Akron facility will be named the C.P. and Cornelia Chima Family Building in recognition of the Chimas' recent gift of $2.17 million to the University's College of Education. The University's Board of Trustees today approved the naming of the building, located at Fir Hill and Forge streets in Akron. The building, currently being renovated by the University, now houses the College of Education's counseling program. “In recognition of their longtime support of The University of Akron and our community, it is most fitting that we name this newly acquired facility for the Chimas,” says UA President Luis M. Proenza. Col. Cornelius P. “C.P.” and Cornelia S. “Neal” Chima have been donors to The University of Akron since 1963. UA's counseling program holds a special interest for the Chimas, along with scholarships and the H. Kenneth Barker Center for Economic Education. C.P. Chima was decorated with valor in both World War II and the Korean Conflict as a pilot. C.P. Chima, along with his brother George and their families, runs Chima Travel. In addition, C.P. Chima has owned the Yellow Cab Co. and Car Lease Inc. Neal Chima has taught college courses in geography and education. The Chimas have three children, Lissa, Craig and C. Derek. Return...
