UA Forum Series Presents Nikki Giovanni April 10
Akron, Ohio, March 27, 2008 — Author, poet and professor Nikki Giovanni will speak about her ongoing fight for equality in education on April 10 at 7:30 p.m. in the Donfred H. Gardner Theatre in The University of Akron's Student Union. Her talk, sponsored by the UA Honors College and supported by the Buckingham Endowment, is part of the 2007-08 UA Forum Series. Tickets cost $8 each for the general public, $6 for UA faculty and staff, and $4 for UA students with a valid ID. Giovanni, a product of the famous 1960s Black Arts Movement, remains one of America's most distinguished, outspoken and widely read authors, poets and essayists. She is known for being determined and committed to fighting for civil rights and equality in education. In its 13th year, the UA Forum Series brings major speakers to the university and the Northeast Ohio community. The series is supported by the UA Office of the President and the Office of the Senior Vice President and Provost. To wrap up the 2007-08 UA Forum Series, award-winning actor, social activist and humanitarian Martin Sheen will present the John S. Knight Lecture on April 21 at 7:30 p.m. at E.J. Thomas Hall.
