UA Press Publishes 'A Time to Dance: The Life of Heinz Poll'
Akron, Ohio, April 3, 2008 — The University of Akron Press has published “A Time to Dance: The Life of Heinz Poll” from the memoirs of the late Heinz Poll edited by Barbara Schubert. Poll was the founder, choreographer and artistic director of the Ohio Ballet, which was based at UA. In the book, Poll retraces his life's journey as a youth in Germany; a teenager forced to serve in the German Navy during the last two years of World War II; a soloist in Germany; a dancer and choreographer with the National Ballet of Chile; a dancer and teacher in France and New York; to the pinnacle of his career turning an eight-member student ensemble called the Ohio Chamber Ballet into the widely acclaimed Ohio Ballet with the help of his partner Thomas Skelton. “A Time to Dance: The Life of Heinz Poll” is the latest book in the UA Press Series on Ohio History and Culture.
