UA Hosts Ohio Future Educators Conference April 18
Akron, Ohio, April 15, 2008 — The University of Akron will host the 17th Annual Ohio Future Educators Association (OFEA) State Conference on Friday, April 18 from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Campus sites for the conference include the James A. Rhodes Arena, Student Union and Zook Hall. More than 900 high school and middle school students from throughout Ohio will attend. Students will participate in various competitions throughout the day, including prepared and impromptu speaking, as well as poster, banner, scrapbook and display contests. In addition, faculty and staff have prepared education-related topical sessions for students and advisers. The conference's keynote session speakers are Dr. Jim Mahoney, executive director of Battelle for Kids, and Deborah Wickerham, 2008 Ohio Teacher of the Year. OFEA, a nonprofit organization established in 1991, is affiliated with the Ohio Department of Education. There are more than 70 OFEA chapters, which consist of students who are interested in becoming educators and students who want to be involved in a positive youth-led organization.
