Natalie Stoianoff is Guest Speaker at UA School of Law April 22
Akron, Ohio, April 18, 2008 — Natalie Stoianoff, law professor and director of the industrial property program at the University of Technology in Sydney, Australia, will visit The University of Akron School of Law on Tuesday, April 22 at noon. The lecture, which is free and open to the public, will take place at the UA School of Law, 150 University Ave., Room 152. Cookies and punch will be provided. Stoianoff will speak on the subject “Biotechnology Patents and Biodiversity: Models for Stakeholder Benefit Sharing.” She will discuss ways to encourage indigenous cultures to share traditional knowledge, as well as local life forms, for the purpose of advancing modern medicine and health care. Stoianoff's interdisciplinary research covers the legal, ethical and commercial aspects of biotechnology. In particular, her research interests range from the patenting of living organisms, technology transfer and environmental taxation. As a joint recipient of an Australian Research Council Discovery Grant, Stoianoff is currently investigating intellectual property enforcement and awareness building in the People's Republic of China. Stoianoff is a co-author of Intellectual Property Law: Text and Essential Cases, which has been adopted by several Australian universities and now in its third edition. She has authored numerous patent law bulletins for Lahore's Patents and Trade Marks & Related Rights Reporter, published by Butterworths, and has edited the multidisciplinary book, Accessing Biological Resources, Complying with the Convention on Biological Diversity, published in 2004 by Kluwer's International Environmental Law & Policy Series.
