Retirement Reception for UA Alumnus Sylvester Small May 9
Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity and The University of Akron will host a reception honoring retiring Akron Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Sylvester Small ('70, '76, '84), on Friday, May 9 from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at the Akron Alpha Center, 662 Wolf Ledges Pkwy. Medina County University Center Open House May 10
The University of Akron's Medina County University Center (MCUC) will host a community open house on Saturday, May 10 from 1 to 4 p.m. The event, which is free and open to the public, will feature family-friendly activities, educational workshops and more.

MCUC, located at 6300 Technology Lane in Medina, opened its doors to students in January. For more information about the open house or MCUC course offerings, call 330-721-2210 or visit www.mcuc.uakron.edu .


UPA Awards Luncheon May 12
Akron Mayor Donald L. Plusquellic will deliver the keynote address at University Park Alliance's (UPA) community engagement and real estate development awards luncheon on Monday, May 12 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in The University of Akron's Student Union Ballroom.

The annual UPA awards, sponsored by Dominion East Ohio, recognize outstanding community members, businesses, institutions and service agencies, as well as UA students, faculty and staff, for their contributions to the revitalization of the University Park neighborhood surrounding the university.

Tickets are $35 for the general public, $15 for community residents and students, $800 for corporate tables of eight and $400 for community-based non-profit tables of eight. Tickets can be purchased online at www.uakron.edu/upa or by calling 330-972-8859.
