UA's William Rickett Appointed to Wayne County Municipal Court
Akron, Ohio, June 9, 2008 — Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland has appointed University of Akron School of Law professor and alumnus William G. Rickett to the Wayne County Municipal Court. He will begin his term on June 30. Rickett has held several positions at UA since joining its School of Law in 1997. He currently is a clinical professor of law and director of the law school's civil litigation clinic. He also serves as a hearing officer for the Akron Metropolitan Housing Authority. “While this is a loss to the school, as well as to me, we are pleased that Bill will continue his relationship with the school as an adjunct professor,” says Dean Martin H. Belsky. From 1986 to 1997, Rickett was a partner with the law firm of Kennedy, Cicconetti and Rickett in Wooster, where he served as a courtroom litigator in the areas of criminal law, juvenile law, family law and personal injury law. He also has served Wayne County in the public sector as a Wooster city councilman from 1978 to 1982, as a member of the Wayne County Board of Elections from 1990 to 2002, and currently as a trustee in Wayne Township. He is an active member of the Wayne County and Akron Bar Associations and serves on several committees, including the Akron Bar Association Municipal Court Committee. Prior to graduating from the UA School of Law in 1986, Rickett received a bachelor's degree from Ohio State University in 1974, as well as a master's degree in 1977. The University of Akron School of Law promotes justice, the protection of individual liberty and the rule of law through commitment to excellence in teaching, scholarship and service. The law school boasts nationally recognized programs in intellectual property and trial advocacy, as well as one of four Constitutional Law Centers in the United States.
