Wednesday Event for New Class in Early College High School Program

Akron, Ohio, June 10, 2008 — An induction ceremony and celebration event will be held Wednesday for the second class participating in the Akron Early College High School program by the Akron Public Schools and The University of Akron's Summit College.

The event will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 11 in the Akron-Summit County Main Public Library auditorium, 60 S. High St.

The Akron Early College High School program offers students the opportunity to earn a high school diploma and an associate degree at the same time. Classes are taught at The University of Akron by both high school teachers and university professors. The program is geared toward first-generation college students.

One hundred students will participate in the coming academic year, which begins Aug. 20.

“Nearly 400 students applied to be in this year's class of 100, so we know that area high school students are aware of and excited about this great program,” says Dean Stanley Silverman of UA's Summit College.
