Sajit Zachariah Named Associate Dean in UA's College of Education
Akron, Ohio, June 25, 2008 Dr. Sajit Zachariah of West Akron has been promoted to associate dean of The University of Akron's College of Education. Dr. Zachariah is an exceptional and knowledgeable leader who has represented the college well on several university, community and national boards, says Dr. Cynthia Capers, interim dean of the College of Education. He has been sought out frequently for such appointments because of his high level of energy, his innovative thinking and his skill at strategic planning, collaborative programming and problem resolution. In his new role, Zachariah will be responsible for administrative and academic leadership, budget, human resources, oversight of the College of Education centers and outreach programs, grants management, and entrepreneurial and strategic initiatives. Zachariah earned a doctorate and master's degree in educational administration from UA, a master's degree in economics from UA and a bachelor's degree in economics from Loyola College. He joined UA in 1995 as the director of technology in the College of Education. He was named assistant professor of education in 1998 and associate professor in 2003. He also has held a series of administrative posts within the college; most recently, he was assistant dean for administration and strategic initiatives. The College of Education, the third largest academic unit at UA, has an enrollment of more than 2,000 graduate and undergraduate students and about 65 full-time and 160 part-time faculty members.
