University of Akron Law Graduates Continue to Raise the Bar
Akron, Ohio, May 13, 2002 — University of Akron School of Law graduates continue to excel in superior performance on the Ohio Bar Exam, as they ranked first among overall test takers on the February exam. According to figures announced by the Ohio Supreme Court, UA law graduates had the highest passage rate in all three categories -- overall test takers, first-time takers and repeat takers. In overall performance, UA law graduates had a 73 percent passage rate, compared to a 52 percent passage rate statewide. Of the graduates taking the bar exam for the first time, 86 percent of the UA graduates passed, compared to 67 percent statewide. “We are very happy for these graduates,” says Richard L. Aynes, dean of The University of Akron School of Law. “They worked hard and did well on a difficult exam.” This latest accomplishment comes on the heels of the March National Jurist magazine rating the UA School of Law as the “best value” in the United States. UA's law program received a 2.9 on a 3.0-point scale, recognizing it as the top public school law program. The rating also was higher than any rating given to a private school law program. The University of Akron School of Law is committed to excellence in teaching and scholarship, and offers joint degrees in business, taxation, public administration and human resource management. It also offers certificate programs in litigation and intellectual property. The UA School of Law has a strong program for the concentrated study of intellectual property and technology, devoting more full-time faculty to the area and offering more courses than any law school in a six-state region. From its beginnings in 1921, the UA School of Law has provided access to legal education through evening programs, access to legal services for traditionally underrepresented populations, and service to the bench, the bar and the broader community through volunteer leadership and consultation.
