Akron, Ohio, Feb. 16, 2004 —The University of Akron School of Law's Thurgood Marshall Mock Trial Team will compete in the Thurgood Marshall Mock Trial National Competition March 17-20 in Boston, Mass.
The team qualified for national competition after placing second in the Mid-West Regional competition held Jan. 28-Feb. 1 in St. Louis, Mo.
Team members include second -year day students Dierdra Howard of Shaker Heights and Tenille Jones of Cleveland Heights, second-year evening student Stephanie Adams of Cleveland, and third-year day student Kandee Robinson of Akron.
During the regional competition, Adams and Howard acted as counsel for the defense and Jones and Robinson represented the plaintiff in a fictional defamation case. Each student also played the role of a witness.
The team is coached by Dean Carro, UA professor of clinical law, and Allen G. Carter, Sr., chief magistrate, Summit County Domestic Relations Court.
The Thurgood Marshall Mock Trial Competition is sponsored by the National Black Law Students Association. Twelve teams will compete in the national competition.
