New Landscape for Learning

The University of Akron’s ongoing, major renovation campaign, the “New Landscape for Learning,” has added 11 new structures to campus. These include two classroom buildings, UA’s 15th residence hall, a Student Recreation and Wellness Center, Student Union and Honors Complex, as well as 30 acres of green space.

In November 2007, the Quaker Square Inn officially became part of campus. The former Quaker Square Complex will become home to some of UA’s residence hall students in time for the spring 2008 semester.

Above, students arrive for move-in day at the Quaker Square Inn, prior to the start of spring semester. Below, the Exchange Street Residence Hall opened in fall 2007.

Also in January 2008, doors at the newly completed Medina County University Center, an innovative workforce development center, will open to students.

Since 2000, when the campaign began, numerous renovation projects have also been undertaken. Among the latest — an addition to Guzzetta Hall that brought all of our educational programs in the performing arts — dance, theatre, music and arts administration — under one roof.

Next up on our new landscape is an on-campus football stadium with seating for 30,000. Construction on InfoCision Stadium and Summa Field is scheduled to be completed in time for the Zips' 2009 home opener.
