| The University of Akron is continuing to “go green” with Coleman Commons, an outdoor living space being created next to the Student Union through the generosity of Kathy Coleman in memory of her late husband, Lester E. Coleman. Nestled on nearly four acres of land south of Buchtel Hall, between the Student Union and the Student Recreation and Wellness Center, the Les and Kathy Coleman Commons will become a majestic front lawn for the University. When all phases of the project are completed, the Coleman Commons will include an open-lawn amphitheater with a stage, a labyrinth and braided park-like walks. |

Among those on hand for the Aug. 14, 2008, groundbreaking ceremony were, from left, UA President Luis Proenza, Ted Curtis, vice president for capital planning and facilities management; Kathy Coleman; and Beth Stroble, senior vice president and provost.
