Green Space

Bowles Garden

The benches in Bowles Garden are a favorite place to study. The clock tower, below, is part of the north entrance to campus.

The transformation of The University of Akron is not limited to new and renovated buildings. We've got an additional 30 acres of green space to make the campus feel more like a park in the midst of its metropolitan setting.

Among the other changes:

* The addition of 30,000 new trees, plants and shrubs that enhance the campus landscape and help define its boundaries.

* Much of Carroll Street has been closed. In its place is a walkway that leads from the center of campus to the Student Recreation and Wellness Center, and a large cul-de-sac between the Student Union and Lee Jackson Field. The right-of-way between Sumner and Union streets is a pedestrian mall.
