Akron Adventures - 2009 Programs
Trip Highlights:
- Akron Adventures trips are about interacting with upper-class students and campus administrators who know what it is like to be new to campus
- Akron Adventures trips are about meeting other new students before you even get to campus in the fall
- Akron Adventures trips are about reflecting on your expectations for college and getting excited for a fun first-year experience
Three different adventures have been planned just for you (read about them below). On all trips you can expect to:
- Participate in small group interaction activities
- Gain leadership and team bulding skills
- Have a chance to challenge yourself
- Interact with upper-class students and campus administrators
Exploration Adventure
July 17-19, 2009
Fee: $129

Enjoy hiking, rock climbing and flat-water kayaking? Experienced guides lead you and other first-year students through this adventurous weekend. Camping and campfires add to the fun. You’ll strengthen the bonds of friendship and your decision making skills along with your muscles.
River Rafting Adventure
August 7-9 2009 (Trip #1)
August 11-13, 2009 (Trip #2)

Look forward to an exciting adventure on the rapids of the New River Gorge. Experienced guides help you navigate the Class IV rapids. Enjoy camping in tents and campfire conversations with your fellow Zips. You’ll learn better communication, cooperation and leadership skills to help you make the transition to college life. Akron Virtual Adventure July & August, 2009 (See times below)
[2-3 hours per meeting; 3-4 meetings]

Group Size: open
Students will be able to meet with each other in a virtual environment instead of traveling physically to an adventure. Akron Virtual Adventures will take place in Second Life (SL), a 3-D virtual world, and other online contact. As with other Akron Adventures, students will be involved in fun adventures, team building activities and will learn more about their role as a student and the services available at The University of Akron. The adventure activities themselves are scheduled to begin the end of July and during August (dates TBA) – all online. (You will need a high-speed connection.) Once a student signs up for the Akron Virtual Adventure, the adventure guide(s) will be in contact with them to help them prepare for the activities and meetings. You need only fill out the first two pages of the registration forms.

Transportation:
Students participating in the River Rafting Adventure and the Exploration Adventure trips will meet at The University of Akron campus and depart to the Adventures site as a group. Students participating in the Service Adventure will stay overnight in a campus Residence Hall. Directions to the meeting point on campus and a campus parking permit will be sent with your confirmation materials after you register for your Adventure.
