Qualifications for Membership

Candidates shall have demonstrated:

• Superior scholastic achievement,
• Academic integrity,
• Professional leadership potential, and/or
• Marked achievement in the field of nursing

Eligibility

Nursing students are invited into membership by chapters in accordance with the International Bylaws. Each candidate is required to meet the criteria for the respective level and expectation of academic integrity. Breaches of academic integrity include, but are not limited to cheating, plagiarism, and falsifying data.  Expectations of professional leadership potential is diminished where the candidate has engaged in unlawful, unethical, unprofessional conduct inconsistent with the purposes of the society. Questions concerning the interpretation of these guidelines can be addressed by contacting the International Eligibility Committee through the headquarters staff.

    Undergraduate Student Membership Criteria

• Complete half of the nursing curriculum.
• Cumulative grade point average of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale.
• RN/BSN students meet the same criteria as the generic program and are considered as a separate group. Each satellite campus is also considered as its own peer group.

    Graduate Membership Criteria

• Complete one quarter of the program of study.
• Cumulative grade point average of at least 3.5 on 4.0 scale.

    Doctoral Membership Criteria

• Complete one quarter of the program of study.
• Cumulative grade point average of 3.75 on 4.0 scale.
• Enrolled in a nursing program or related field.

    Community Leader Membership Criteria

• Minimum of a baccalaureate degree in nursing or another field.
• Basic graduates are expected to have five years after receipt of the first professional nursing degree to develop as community leaders.
• Demonstrated marked achievement in nursing education, practice, research, administration, or publication.
• Submission of data and vita to support selection criteria and highest degree in addition to the endorsement and intent forms.

The above criteria are based on recommendation of international and board approval. Delta Omega bylaws changes are pending.

Application Requirements

• Once eligibility is established, potential members are invited to place an application.
• Each candidate must assume responsibility for completing the application requirements. Check with the School of Nursing for requirements.
• Community Leaders provide a vita and evidence of highest degree (i.e. diploma or transcript).
