HIPAA stands for the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, which is a law that was passed in 1996. Among the many matters the law addresses is the concern regarding privacy and security of patient health information. The University has created this website to assist the University community in its efforts to gain a greater understanding of the law, its requirements, and its protections.
