Mr. Ted A. Mallo

As General Counsel to The University of Akron, and subject to the authority of the Ohio Attorney General, Mr. Mallo coordinates and directs the legal affairs of the University. Mr. Mallo has been the chief legal advisor to the Board of Trustees, the President, and the University's officers and administrators since 1976. Mr. Mallo began serving the University of Akron in a legal capacity in 1972, becoming its first Director of Legal Affairs in 1976. In 1989, Mr. Mallo became the first General Counsel among state universities in Ohio and was made Vice President and General Counsel in 1996. He has been an Assistant Attorney General since 1983.

Mr. Mallo also serves as an elected officer of the Board of Trustees. Since 1994, he has been elected Secretary of The University of Akron Board of Trustees and from 1989 until August 1994, he served as the Assistant Secretary of the Board.

Mr. Mallo is an Adjunct Associate Professor at The University of Akron College of Education, and served as a member of the Graduate Faculty. Mr. Mallo has also served as an Adjunct Faculty Member of The University of Akron School of Law, and previously taught biology, chemistry and physics in the Akron Public Schools.

Mr. Mallo is a long-time member of the National Association of College and University Attorneys (NACUA), having chaired its Articles and Bylaws Committee and served as vice-president of its Operations Committee, as well as having served on numerous committees. He participated in NACUA's first Professional Development Institute at Harvard University in 1994. Mr. Mallo is a member of the Akron and Ohio Bar Association; member and past director of the Downtown Kiwanis Club of Akron; a 1991 graduate of Leadership Akron; and past president of the Parish Council of St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church. He was appointed chair of Summit County's initial Personnel Board of Review and served on the Summit County Charter Review Commission. His elected public office positions include 12 years as a member of the Green Local School Board, serving as President for two terms. He has been an elected member of the Green Merger Commission, the Green Charter Commission, and the initial Green City Council. Mr. Mallo served as legal counsel and chair of the Steering Committee that led to the incorporation the Township of Green into the City of Green. He is currently a member of the Green Schools Foundation and a former member of the Knight Convention Center Board of Trustees, and former member of the Summit County Juvenile Court Citizens Advisory Committee.

Mr. Mallo received his Bachelors, Masters, and Juris Doctor degrees from The University of Akron. He lives in Green, Ohio with his wife, JoAnn, and has three grown children and nine grandchildren.
