Instructions For Applying For Lawful Permanent Residency(LPR) in the U.S.

In order to get started with the application process for LPR, departments must be familiar with the procedure. If the beneficiary for the position is currently employed in a tenured track position or a full-time research position you may be qualified for sponsorship at The University of Akron.

The First Step

Department Administrators, who wish to sponsor a tenured track faculty member or permanent researcher, must be familiar with the request for lawful permanent residency procedures. Please read the attached instructions (click here).

The Second Step

Once approval has been obtained the beneficiary must make an appiontment with the Director of OIP to determine the appropriate manner to pursue the LPR status. If it is determined that outstanding professor/researcher(OPR) category is appropriate, please follow directions in Step #1 below. If it is determined that the Advanced Degree Professional(ADP) application is appropriate, please refer to Step #2 below.

Step #1 Outstanding professor/researcher(OPR)
A. Complete the Request Form for OPR application(click here).
B. Begin collecting items on the Checklist for Outstanding Professor/Researcher(click here).

Step #2 Advanced Degree Professional(ADP)
ADP will need to seek legal assistance outside The University of Akron and work in concert with OIP to complete application process. The websites are provided below:
