Congratulations on your admission to The University of Akron! The staff in the Office of International Programs looks forward to welcoming you to Akron, and we hope that your transition to university life will be a pleasant and enjoyable one. Please read the "Welcome Letter" that was sent to you with your I-20/DS-2019, as it contains valuable information that you need to know. Below is a checklist to help you as you prepare for your arrival and first few weeks in Akron.
New International Student Orientation is designed to meet the needs of new international students. At orientation, the OIP staff and student leaders will help you get acquainted with the campus and will cover important topics such as immigration regulations, registering for classes, services offered at UA, and campus involvement. There are also many social events and activities during orientation week that provide you with the opportunity to connect with other students and people in the community. Orientation will be held on August 20 and 21 for all students. Undergraduate and Exchange students will have additional activities on August 22. A fee of $100 is automatically assessed to all new students for this service. (Please note: this fee is subject to revision.) Attendance is mandatory and attendance will be taken. Students who do not attend orientation are in violation of the UA Student Code of Conduct. All new undergraduate students will be required to take the Math Placement Exam during orientation, and possibly the Compass Reading & Writing Placement Test.
If you are currently studying at another institution in the USA in F-1 visa status or on OPT on another school's I-20, you will need to transfer your SEVIS record to The University of Akron before you can begin classes here.Be advised that all on-campus or OPT employment will be must terminated by your SEVIS release date.
or
If you received a visa using a different school's I-20 but have not yet arrived in the USA, you will first need to contact the school that issued your I-20 to inquire about their policy on students transferring before enrolling at their institution. Each school handles this differently. After you have discussed your transfer with them, you should follow the procedures for a normal transfer to The University of Akron.
Download the Step-by-Step Transfer Instructions and Transfer Forms.
Transfer students should follow the checklist above. All transfer students are required to register for a Check-In Session and attend New International Student Orientation.
