Academic Credit

As an Education Abroad student at The University of Akron, you are required to carry a full load of courses (equivalent to 12 UA credit hours per semester minimum). If you have questions about the equivalency of credits at your host institution compared to UA, be sure to ask.

Obtaining Credit

Academic course work on The University of Akron's Education Abroad Program is eligible for credit. Your clearance form must be reviewed and signed by the appropriate officer within your college. You are responsible for obtaining any signatures prior to leaving for your study abroad program. The name of the responsible officer may be obtained from the Dean's office in your academic college.

The “Undergraduate Guest (Transient) Permission Form” is the document used for obtaining transfer elective credit as well as for obtaining credit towards your major, minor or certificate program. Once the signatures have been obtained, a copy of the Transient Form for your Education Abroad program must be returned to the Education Abroad section of International Programs in the Polsky Building, Room 483 (Campus Zip 3101).

Note that the Education Abroad Program is exempt from the ruling whereby only 18 credit hours may be approved for transfer to UA.
