On behalf of the Inter-University Council, The University of Akron will serve as the administrative home for the Ohio Leadership Academy Program. The program administrator for the state of Ohio is Dr. Cynthia Capers, special assistant to the provost.
Cynthia Flynn Capers, PhD
Cynthia Flynn Capers, PhD, has professional experiences as special assistant to provost, dean, professor, researcher, consultant, nurse and family therapist. In her role as special assistant to provost she has responsibility to lead and facilitate projects pertaining to academic leadership, STEM education, and academic health initiatives. She is recognized for her leadership on local and national levels that include but are not limited to chair and vice chair of the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing as a gubernatorial appointee national advisor to the Johnson & Johnson Campaign for Nursing's Future; panel member of the Healthcare Research, Dissemination and Implementation study section for the Agency for Health Care Quality and Research; and board member of the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education. She has received several recognitions for her leadership that include the 2006 Northeast Ohio ATHENA award for advancing careers of women and the 100th Cameos of Caring Award in 2010 for her visionary leadership and advocacy for nursing. Dr. Capers holds the belief that leaders need to be authentic, communicate openly and seek to realize a shared vision. She, along with another dean colleague, created The University of Akron's leadership development program for faculty and administrators that bears the name: Academic Leadership Forum (ALF). This program is highly effective in preparing leaders to advance strategic initiatives at The University of Akron.
