Admission: Completed Bachelors degree; Three Letters of Recommendation; GRE scores; Writing Sample; Statement of Purpose Course Requirements: Completion of 32 semester credits of which include completion of the core courses (graduate Proseminar, Research Design and Methods, Multivariate Techniques, and Early sociological Thought) with at least a 3.00 grade-point average, at least 6 hours of thesis work, and the completion of a mater’s thesis with successful oral defense. GRADUATE STUDENT HANDBOOK________________________________________________________________ Admission: Completed M.A. Degree in sociology or equivalent; Three letters of Recommendation; GRE scores; Writing Sample; Statement of Purpose Course Requirements: Students must complete 32 hours of coursework, including the graduate Proseminar, Research Design, Early Sociological Theory, Multivariate Analysis, College Teaching, Advanced Data Analysis, Contemporary Social Thought, 9 – 12 credits in specialty area, and 30 credits of dissertation. No more than five credits of independent study or readings may apply toward these 30 credits. Comprehensive Examinations: Ph.D. students must pass a doctoral comprehensive exam in one major and one minor area. We have nine exam areas: criminology, deviance, families, gender, medical, mental health, race, social class, and social psychology.
