Biographical sketch
Dr. Prough is a Professor of Marketing in the College of Business Administration, where he has been a faculty member since 1968. He has a Master's degree in advertising from Michigan State University and earned his doctorate in marketing from Kent State University. From 1991 until 1993, he served the College as Associate Dean of External Affairs and Community Service.
He has written articles for such journals as the Journal of Professional Services Marketing, the Journal of Public Policy and Marketing, the Journal of Travel Research, Journal of Small Business Management, Business Topics, Akron Business and Economic Review, and Health Marketing Quarterly. He co-authored Essentials of Marketing Research, published by a division of Macmillan Publishers.
Dr. Prough has done consulting and led marketing, strategic planning and training programs for such clients as the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company, General Tire, the Ohio Ballet, Dover Chemical, The Summit County Chapter of the American Red Cross, F. W. Albrecht Company, Portage Country Club, First Energy, Firestone Tire & Rubber Company, East Ohio Gas Company, Rolling Acres Mall, Infoline, Apples Supermarkets, the Akron/Summit Convention and Visitors' Bureau, and Columbia Gas.
In the community, Dr. Prough is a past member of the Board of Trustees of United Way of Summit County, past president of the Akron-Canton Chapter of the American Marketing Association, has served on the Akron Plus Campaign of the Akron Regional Development Board and the Board of the Akron Advertising Club. In 1992, he was awarded a Distinguished Marketer Award by the Akron Chapter of the Sales & Marketing Executives International. He was chosen by The University of Akron Alumni Association to receive the University's Outstanding Teacher Award in 1997. He and his wife Pat live in Copley Township.
