Program costs and financial aid

University support for CPP students is generally very strong and typically all CPP graduate students receive full tuition waivers as part of a graduate assistantship package. These tuition waivers cover tuition for up to 15 credit hours, other fees are the responsibility of the student.

In 2017-18, 100% of the CPP students who were enrolled in program-related courses (i.e., not students enrolled only in a single dissertation credit) on campus received an assistantship and a full tuition waiver. The value of the assistantship package ranged from $11,500 to $12,500 plus the tuition waiver for a nine-month appointment. These assistantships typically involve teaching or teaching related activities. They usually require 20 hours of work per week. Students who complete their coursework and internship but who have not yet completed the dissertation are required by the Graduate School to enroll for 1 credit hour each Fall and Spring semester until graduation and the cost for these credits is out of pocket.

2017-2018 tuition and fee rates for graduate students are calculated on a per credit hour basis. The table below details these costs for the current fall semester.

Program Costs

There is also a $175 parking/transportation fee per semester, and a $30 administrative fee per semester. Per credit hour there is a general service fee of $16.45, a facility fee of $18.55, a technology fee of $16.25, and a library fee of $4.00 totaling $55.26 per credit.

Admission and attrition rates

Typically, 7-9 new doctoral students are admitted each year from a pool of 70 to 100 applications. Over the last 10 years, we have admitted an average of 8 students per year.

The attrition data for the last ten student cohorts is presented in the table below. On average, we have approximately one student per year who leaves the program without completing their Ph.D. degree. Quite often, these are students who enter with a Bachelor’s degree and who leave after completing their Master’s degree due to a change in career plans. Other students leave for familial responsibilities/pressures. During the past ten years, one student left the program for academic reasons.

Overall, the CPCP placement rate for all who applied for internships over the last 7 years was 74%.

Time to completion

Data on students in our doctoral program who graduated over the last seven years (2005-2012) indicate the following information about their length of time to completion:
