Withdrawal Policy for Students Called to Active Duty
Because of the present situation in world affairs, it is possible that some of our students who are members of the National Guard or military reservists may be called to active duty on short notice.
If this should happen, the Office of the University Registrar would apply the following withdrawal/refund policy (the complete policy can be found on the Student Accounts website).
The policy states:
Amount of refund - credit: Amount of refund is to be determined in accordance with the following regulations and subject to course instructor/adviser signature requirements contained in The University of Akron's official withdrawal policy:
In full:
If the student is drafted into military service by the United States; is called to active duty; or if the student enlists in the National Guard or Reserve prior to the beginning of the term. Notice of induction or orders to active duty is required if the student is called to active duty.
The student has two options available to them:
- Choose to withdraw from their course(s). If this option is chosen, the student should submit to the Office of the University Registrar a copy of their Notice of Induction or Orders to Active Duty. Once the documentation is received, the student will be withdrawn from all of their courses and a full refund will be applied to the student's financial account.
- In collaboration with the instructor, choose to receive an Incomplete for course(s) in which they are currently enrolled. If this option is chosen, the student has until the end of the following semester to complete course requirements (unless the student has not returned from active duty status in which the instructor(s) must submit an Incomplete Extension Form). It is the responsibility of the student and instructor(s) to follow up on an Incomplete grade.
The Office of the University Registrar understands and appreciates the situation at hand when a student is called to active duty status. If anyone from the campus community has any questions or concerns regarding this policy, please feel free to contact our office at Registrar@uakron.edu or at (330) 972-8300.
