The University of Akron Military Services Center
Advance Payment Program
Advance Payment of educational assistance allowance is intended to help students meet school-related and other expenses at the beginning of a semester. The payment is your GI Bill allowance for the first two months of school and the check is issued to the university at the beginning of a school year. It is available to eligible veterans, reservists/guard members and dependents who are enrolled a minimum of half-time, and not claiming benefits for the full calendar month preceding the start of the semester in which advance payment is requested. Therefore, if you are claiming GI Bill benefits during the month of August for summer school, you would not be eligible for advance payment for the fall semester. You must make your request for advance payment in person in our office a minimum of 30 days before your classes begin. To contact the Veteran Affairs Office - Hezzleton E. Simmons Hall Room - 120, 330.972.7838. (This program is not available for Ch. 31 veterans.)
