Repeats, Audits, and Mini Courses
If you are planning to repeat a course for which you already received VA educational benefits, there is a possibility you may not get paid for it again. Repeating a course just to raise your grade point average is not an acceptable reason for receiving VA payment. Please be aware that the VA will pay for repeat courses only if you received an "F" in the initial course, or you did not meet the minimum grade requirement for the course when taken in your approved program.
Payment also cannot be made for any courses taken or changed to an "Audit" basis. Changes to audit during a semester will be treated by the VA as a course drop with a request for mitigating circumstances.
Enrollment in "mini" or short courses could also affect your VA payments and you may not be paid full-time for the entire semester. For example, if you are enrolled in 11 full-term credits and a 1 credit mini course running for the first 8 weeks, you will be full-time for only the first 8 weeks and then drop down to 3/4 time for the rest of the semester. Even though you paid full-time tuition, VA payment is based on classroom time and after that 8 week period, you are no longer in that class. Please be aware of this problem and check with our office before you add any short courses during the semester. Contact Veteran Affairs Office, Hezzleton E. Simmons Hall Room - 120, 330.972.7838.
