Ohio Residency Ohio Residency Status for Tuition Surcharge Purposes is initially determined by limited information contained on the application for admission to The University of Akron. If you have not physically lived in the State of Ohio for the 12 month period preceeding the term you are applying, you will be admitted as an out-of-state student.
If a student believes he/she qualifies for Ohio residency based on any of the residency rules or exceptions, then you must petition for residency to be eligible to qualify as an in-state student.
Regulations used to determine Ohio Residency Status for Tuition Purposes are under the authority of the Ohio Board of Regents by section 3333-1-10 of the Ohio Administrative Code. The University of Akron, based on information provided on the application, applies these regulations.

Residency status is not retroactive and will not be considered for previous terms.
